YRU-Kiel Study on 50 m Unconventional Cruising Trimaran

By: K. Graf

YRU-Kiel recently signed a contract with a south German company on the development of an unconventional cruising trimaran. YRU-Kiel's client, CTB GmbH / Wallerstein, markets large, carbon build, cruising multihulls. CTB cooperates with CGB GmbH / Wallerstein, a company operating a facility for the production of large scale Carbon Fiber modules for various purposes. The trimaran will be built in modules at this facility.
Under the contract YRU-Kiel develops the preliminary design of the cruising trimaran, having main dimensions of L=50m, B=30m, Displacement=155t. The particular challenges of the project are ultra low draft, flexibility of the interior which focuses on simplicity rather than luxury and a modular construction, which allows producing modules at the south German production facilities, while final assembly will be done at a ship yard, presumably at the Baltic coast.
The yacht will be used for general cruising as well as for exploratory cruises to places, where highly developed port facilities cannot be expected.
